Tayler Housden’s hat trick paces Aberdeen in 3-0 win over Chehalis

Aberdeen brought its home schedule to a close on Tuesday by delivering a hat trick to its home fans at Stewart Field.

Senior Tayler Housden, one of nine seniors honored during pre-game Senior Night festivities, scored her first hat trick of the season to keep the Bobcats locked into a district postseason berth with a 3-0 victory over Chehalis in Evergreen 2A Conference play.

“We’re going to continue to work hard, to improve,” AHS head coach Ryan Housden said. “The girls have been working hard, working on our attack and we’ve come a long ways there. We wanted to take control of the game, dominate possession.”

Prior to the opening kickoff, Aberdeen honored its seniors — Tayler Housden, Madi Judkins, Anna Salazar, Dani Buckman, Amanda Bradt, Kyra Gallinger, Megan Auld, Mackenzie Arnold and Alex Wilson — on their final home match of their AHS careers.

Six minutes after kickoff, Housden knocked home her first goal of the night. Taking a long through ball 40 yards from goal, the speedy forward split two Chehalis defenders and left goalkeeper Kyndra Haller alone. Housden slipped the ball into the left side of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Aberdeen (4-3, 5-7) dominated the scoring chances in the first half, led by Housden’s footwork around Chehalis defenders, but there was no finishing touch at the end. Chehalis (2-6, 4-9-1), which held its possession mostly at midfield, had a chance or two, but the Bobcat defense gobbled them up quickly for goalkeeper Reagan Glanz.

“They had some runs down the chances, but chances not so many,” coach Housden said. “I believe we had much more than they did at goal. We had control of the game.”

At halftime, two Grays Harbor Youth Soccer girls teams entertained the crowd.

Four minutes after the second-half kickoff, Housden made it 2-0. A misplayed Chehalis ball deep inside the penalty area allowed Housden a shot, which was heavily deflected by a Chehalis defender. The ball then squirted through Haller into the net for the goal.

The second half played just as well as the first in terms of Bobcat scoring chances and possession. Housden set up teammates for chances at goal, including a blistering pass across the face of the goal that needed a Bobcat foot to redirect in the 71st minute.

After that, Housden took care of her hat trick, securing a long ball and rifling a shot from 25 yards out and Haller way off her goal line. The ball hit the middle portion of the goal.

Aberdeen won the junior varsity match, 2-0.

On Thursday, the Bobcats hit the road to take on league-leading Tumwater.
