Former Aberdeen wrestler advances to national championships

Former Aberdeen High School girls wrestler Tatum Heikkila, now competing for Colorado Mesa University, placed third at the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championship Southwest Regional on Sunday, Feb. 20 at McKendree University (Lebanon, Illinois).

Wrestling in the 170-pound weight class, Heikkila advanced to the semifinals before losing 10-0 to McKendree’s Joye Levendusky.

Heikkila responded by defeating William Jewell’s Emma Carter 13-2 to advance to the third-place bout.

Heikkila defeated Chadron State’s Kamila Montenegro 5-2 to take third and secure a spot in the NCWWC National Championships March 4-5 in Adrian, Michigan.

Poggie Club meeting Wednesday

There will be a Poggie Club meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 9 at the Hoquiam Elks Lodge located at 624 K Street.
