Raymond-South Bend 56, Ocosta 29

Raymond-South Bend got off to a good start en route to a 56-29 win over Ocosta on Tuesday in Westport.

The Ravens (2-1 overall, 1-0 2B Pacific) jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the first quarter led by the shooting of sisters Kyndal and Kassie Koski, who combined for 12 points in the period.

RSB extended its lead to 23 points by halftime on three key steals and subsequent layups by Emma Glazier and eight points from Kyndal Koski in the second quarter.

Despite “struggling with offensive and defensive consistency” in the second half, according to head coach Jason Koski, Raymond-South Bend outscored the Wildcats (2-2, 0-1) 21-17 over the final 12 minutes to secure the 56-29 win.

Kyndal Koski led the Ravens with 16 points while younger sister Kassie had 13.

Ocosta was led by eighth grader Bristol Towle with 13 points while senior Alexia Bradley had 12 for the Wildcats.

RSB hosts Ilwaco while Ocosta hosts Chief Leschi in league games scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Napavine 64, Montesano 20

Montesano couldn’t stop the hot-shooting Napavine Tigers in a 64-20 loss on Tuesday in Napavine.

The Bulldogs (2-1) trailed 20-7 after one quarter and were held to just eight points in the second half – none in the fourth quarter – against a Napavine team that made 11 3-pointers in the game.

Montesano outrebounded Napavine (4-0) 32-24, but it was of little use as the Bulldogs committed 38 turnovers in the game.

“We knew they were good shooters and I thought for long stretches, we played good half-court defense,” Monte head coach Mark Mansfield said. “(The turnovers) led to some easy buckets for them and some extra opportunities. … We did some good things, but we needed to take better care of the basketball.”

Montesano was led by Lex Stanfield with six points.

Jillie Dalan had 14 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs.

Monte plays Seattle Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

Montesano 7 5 8 0 – 20

Willapa Valley 33, Columbia Adventist 9

Willapa Valley opened the 1B Columbia Valley League season with a 33-9 win over Columbia Adventist Academy on Tuesday in Vancouver.

The Vikings (2-1, 1-0 1B Columbia Valley) struggled from the field, hitting just 13-of-64 shots (20%) in the low-scoring affair.

Despite leading just 9-4 at the half, the Vikings found more offense in the second half, outscoring CAA 24-5 to close out the victory.

Willapa Valley had 36 rebounds as a team – 20 on the offensive glass – and was led by junior forward Addison Merkel, who had 12 points and six rebounds in the game.

“It took us a little while to get started after the long road trip,” Willapa Valley head coach Dawn Keeton said. “I have to commend our defense, which played really well. We couldn’t convert a lot into points, but still played really well.”

Kylee Fluke and Lauren Matlock had seven rebounds apiece to lead the Vikings.

Willapa Valley takes on Pe Ell in a league game at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Menlo.
