Ocosta beat Willapa Valley in girls hoops while Raymond’s boys basketball team downed rival South Bend in Monday’s prep sports action on the Harbor.

GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL

Ocosta 52, Willapa Valley 47

Ocosta honored its two seniors with a 52-47 Senior Night victory over Willapa Valley on Monday in Westport.

The Wildcats (8-10 overall) got off to a slow start with just three points in the first quarter but rallied to trail the Vikings (10-10) 19-18 at the half.

Ocosta outscored Valley 34-28 in the second half to pick up the non-league victory.

Sophomore Anna Davis (17 points, 14 rebounds, 3 steals), eighth-grader Bristol Towle (17 pts., 3 assists, 3 stl.) and senior Alexia Bradley (14 pts., 6 reb.) did all the scoring for Ocosta, which had 29 rebounds – 13 offensive – in the game.

The Wildcats were 18 of 43 from the field (42%) and hit 10-of-17 free throws (59%).

Valley was led by Lauren Matlock with a team-high 16 points despite battling through illness.

The Vikings were 14 of 38 from the floor (37%) and hit 11-of-22 free throws (50%).

Ocosta honored Bradley and fellow senior Brynn Rasmus on Senior Night.

Valley’s next varsity contest is at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in Mossyrock.

Ocosta plays at Northwest Christian at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Lacey.

Adna 66, Montesano 50

Never a program to shy away from a challenge, Montesano took on the state’s top 2B team, losing to the Adna Pirates 66-50 on Monday in Adna.

The Bulldogs (11-9) got behind be 10 early and by 20 in the third quarter before trimming the Pirates lead to as little as eight points.

But Adna (19-1) hit 14 threes in the game to secure the victory.

Monte was led by sophomore forward Jillie Dalan (19 points, 9 rebounds), with sophomore Lex Stanfield (14 points) and freshman guard Tieander Olson (13 pts., 7 rebounds, 6 assists) also scoring in double digits.

Monte went 23 of 49 from the field (47%) and hit 4-of-8 free throws (50%).

Adna held a 31-25 rebounding advantage against Montesano.

The Bulldogs host Hoquiam in a 1A Evergreen League game at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

BOYS PREP BASKETBALL

Raymond 75, South Bend 45

Raymond got out to a big lead early en route to a 75-45 win over South Bend on Monday at South Bend High School.

The Seagulls (11-9 overall, 8-4 2B Pacific) outscored Raymond 43-16 in the first half to put the game away by halftime.

”We got off to a good start against South Bend tonight. Our pressure gave them some issues early, leading to some easy buckets,” Raymond head coach Mike Tully said. “When we backed off the press, we got a little lazy defensively and struggled to get rolling again. Overall, it was a good way to finish off the regular season and we’re looking forward to district.”

Four players scored in double figures for a Raymond team that went 33 of 77 from the field (43%) against South Bend (1-16, 1-12).

Raymond was led by seniors Austin Snodgrass (15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists) and Talan Yearout (15 pts., 10 reb., 3 ast., 3 blocks) while Chris Quintana (14 pts., 6 reb., 5 ast.) and Chris Banker (12 pts., 4 reb.) also scored in double figures.

The Gulls had 37 rebounds in the game, 19 on the offensive glass.

South Bend was led by Michael Nunez and Josh Flynn with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Raymond will likely enter the 2B District 4 Tournament – slated to begin on Saturday – as the Pacific League’s No. 4 seed.

South Bend closes out its season against Onalaska at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Willapa Valley 77, Firm Foundation 38

Willapa Valley played an all-around game in defeating Firm Foundation 77-38 on Monday in Battle Ground.

Valley (8-9, 7-4 1B Columbia Valley) had three players in double figures, led by Nathan Fluke’s 26-point, 10-rebound performance.

“This was a nice win for us on the road. We had several guys contribute in multiple ways,” Valley head coach Derek Rask said. “I thought our defensive pressure was solid, and our transition game on offense was effective as a result of our defense.”

Blane King scored 19 points while Hank Swartz had a double-double with 13 points and 10 steals.

Valley went 29 of 62 from the floor (47%) and 11 of 17 from the free-throw line (65%).

The Vikings host the Washington School for the Deaf at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
