Friday Prep Roundup: Ocosta softball claims league title

SOFTBALL

Wildcats 15, Hyaks 2

WESTPORT — Ocosta wrapped up a Pacific 2B League title with a victory over North Beach on Friday.

The Wildcats (8-0, 17-1) jumped out to an early lead, putting up five runs in the first inning and six runs in the second. Ocosta’s offense was fueled by home runs from Kristi Raffelson in each of the first two innings. Raffelson blasted a 2-run shot in the first and followed it up with a 3-run bomb in the second inning.

The lone offensive bright spot for the Hyaks came when Hannah Avery hit a 2-run home run in the third inning.

“It was nice to get out on the field and see some live pitching and be able to attack the ball,” Ocosta head coach Jason Barnum said. “(A league title) was one of our goals, but we have our eye on the prize of making the state tournament.”

“There was some pretty good competition and we got some very good performances from our top competitors,” Montesano coach Doug Schupbach said.

North Beach’s Mariah Vogler was the only Hyak girl to claim an individual title, posting a season best distance of 32-9 3/4 to win the triple jump.
