Despite four La Center turnovers, Hoquiam had trouble slowing down the Wildcats in suffering a 63-14 season-ending loss in a 1A crossover game on Friday at Woodland High School.

Hoquiam (4-6 overall) recovered a fumble on the first La Center possession of the game, but failed to convert it into points.

From that point on the game belonged to the Wildcats (9-1), taking a 16-0 lead on two first-quarter touchdowns — including a 44-yard TD pass by quarterback Tru Feldman to Levi Giles — and a safety.

After La Center scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 29-0 lead, Hoquiam got on the board when lineman Kort Gordon recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown before halftime.

Three La Center rushing touchdowns in the third quarter put the game away at 50-7.

Trailing 57-7, Hoquiam scored when junior running back Jake Templer had a four-yard run in the fourth quarter.

An 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by La Center’s Davari Grauer on the ensuing play rounded out the scoring.

Hoquiam quarterback Zander Jump led the Grizzlies with eight rushes for 72 yards and went 7-for-17 passing for 62 yards and an interception.

Hoquiam senior receiver Owen McNeill caught three passes for 40 yards.

Raymond-South Bend 48, Kalama 42

Raymond-South Bend kept its season alive with a thrilling 48-42 overtime victory against Kalama in a 2B district crossover game on Friday in Kalama.

The Ravens (8-2) led 20-6 after scoring three first-quarter touchdowns, including a 71-yard return of the opening kickoff by Ferrill Johnson.

The two teams combined for 44 points in the second quarter, with Kalama quarterback Aiden Brown running for three of his five touchdowns in the game while RSB running back Skyler Hutson scored on a TD run of 25 yards.

Kalama lineman Dylan Jones returned a Ravens fumble 10 yards for a touchdown as the Chinooks (3-6) took a 34-28 lead.

But the Ravens responded when Hutson scored his second touchdown of the quarter on a 6-yard run just before halftime to stake RSB to a 36-34 lead at the break.

“They couldn’t stop us, but we really couldn’t stop them either,” RSB head coach Luke Abbott said. “We had a tough time stopping their quarterback.”

Kalama went up 42-36 when Brown scored his fifth TD of the game on a 13-yard run late in the third quarter.

RSB once again responded quickly with Johnson taking it the distance on a 65-yard touchdown run.

The Ravens’ extra-point attempt failed, keeping the game tied at 42-all.

Some fumbles cost the Ravens in the fourth quarter, killing drives. An RSB fumble with less than three minutes to play gave Kalama possession on the Ravens half of the field. The RSB’s defense held back the Chinooks to send the game into overtime.

Kalama won the toss and chose to play defense.

RSB scored in the extra period on a 12-yard run from Johnson, but the extra-point was no good, giving Kalama a chance at the victory with a score and PAT conversion.

On fourth down, Brown threw the ball to the end zone, but senior defensive back Iyven Perez was there to break up the pass, keeping the Ravens’ season alive with the victory.

“I think my heart is in an OK condition. But that was a test. It tested me,” Raymond-South Bend head coach Luke Abbott joked after the breathtaking victory. “It was unbelievable. … We made plays when we needed too. … I’m very proud of the way that we bent but didn’t break. We finished and I’m really happy for this team and these seniors.”

RSB was led by senior running back Ty Reidinger, who carried the ball 15 times for 118 yards.

Johnson finished with 108 yards on five carries while Hutson ran the ball eight times for 38 yards.

RSB advances to the 2B State Tournament with the victory.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 54, Adna 0

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley scored 40 points in the second quarter to put the game away by halftime in a 54-0 win over Adna in a 2B district crossover game on Friday in Menlo.

The Titans (7-3) took advantage of six Adna turnover and the Pirates being without starting quarterback Lane Johnson, who left the game in the second quarter with a wrist injury and did not return.

PWV running back Cody Strozyk broke free for a 67-yard run in the first quarter to get the Titans on the board before the floodgates opened in the second stanza.

Titans quarterback Kolten Fluke hit receiver Derek Fluke for two touchdowns in the second quarter to go up 21-0 and followed with a 21-yard scoring run to go up 28-0.

Kolten Fluke then hit running back Blake Howard for a four-yard score followed by a 20-yard TD run from Strozyk and a three-yard scoring plunge from senior Wil Clements as the Titans scored three touchdowns in the final 3:30 of the first half.

Leading 47-0 after halftime, Keeton put the finishing touches on the victory, scooping up one of 13 Adna fumbles in the game and running 30 yards for a touchdown with 5:12 to go in the third quarter.

Keeton’s fumble recovery was one of six the Titans recorded in the game.

“I told the boys, ‘Whoever takes care of the football will probably win this game,” PWV head coach Josh Fluke said. “And we did a little bit better job than Adna did.”

The Titans rushed for 207 yards as a team, with Strozyk (8 carries, 105 yards) leading the way.

Kolten Fluke went 4-for-6 for 100 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

His favorite target was Derek Fluke, who caught three passes for 96 yards and a pair of scores.

The Titans defense held the Pirates (5-5) to minus-53 yards rushing on 28 carries, largely due to Adna’s 13 fumbles in the wet, windy weather.

The victory sends the Titans to the 2B State Tournament.

The win was also the first time the Titans took the field since Oct. 15, winning via forfeits over the final two weeks of the season.

“After having two and a half weeks off, it could’ve gone either way,” coach Fluke said. “We could’ve been really ready and hit these guys hard or we could have been off for a long time and come out and played some bad football. … We chose the other route and played some good football.”

Quilcene 58, Lake Quinault 14

Lake Quinault suffered a season-ending loss to Quilcene 58-14 in a 1B 8-man crossover game on Saturday at Memorial Field in Port Townsend.

The Elks (8-1 overall) moved up from 6-man to 8-man football for the contest and had trouble slowing down the Rangers (6-4).

Quilcene led 30-0 after the first quarter and added two touchdowns in each of the second and third quarters to lead 58-0 entering the final quarter.

The Elks committed four turnovers in the game, each of which led to points for Quilcene.

Lake Quinault got a touchdown run from quarterback Jesse Ferry and a 60-yard touchdown pass from Ferry to receiver Luis Estrada in the fourth quarter.

“I blame this loss on myself,” said Elks head coach Melvyn Houtz, who previously coached 8-man football. “I’m an 8-man coach and don’t believe in excuses. As a coach, you take responsibility for your losses. I felt the outcome would have been better if I had prepared them better.”

Lake Quinault, which was named the WIAA 1B Team of the Month for October, won the River Bowl over Taholah and the 1B Coastal 6-man championship against Northwest Christian this season.

“We had a great season,” Houtz said. “We went 0-6 when these seniors were freshman to now winning the 6-man title. It’s very special. … In all the years I’ve coached, it’s one of the best teams and seasons I’ve had.”
