William Eric Matsen

William Eric Matsen passed away suddenly with his wife by his side on May 12, 2024, at the age of 79 at their home in Union, Washington.

In recent years he had battled a number of health issues and we take comfort in knowing he is now pain-free.

Bill was born and raised in Moclips, Washington in a family of 9. He was preceded in death by his parents and three of his siblings.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patt; his children: Dianna Bonifer (Jesus), Tami Petrina (Tom), Michelle McLaughin (Jeff) and Mike Matsen (Nikki); his nephew Jackson DeWitt, 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many extended relatives.

He raised his family in Hoquiam and Cosmopolis, later moving to the Seattle area and retiring to Union, Washington. Bill worked the first half of his career at Hoquiam Plywood. Following a workplace injury he took a leap and went to school to become a chef, something he’d always dreamed of. He worked at several retirement homes as the food service manager before retirement.

Bill loved family, he had the best smile, biggest heart and contagious laugh. He raised his family with integrity and values that he modeled, but never preached.

We will celebrate his life on Thursday, May 30, 2024, 1 p.m. at the Aberdeen Elks.
