William “Bill” Thomas Newton, 76, lifelong Aberdeen resident and former appliance repairman passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023.

William “Bill” Thomas Newton, 76, lifelong Aberdeen resident and former appliance repairman passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, surrounded by his wife and family at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

Bill was born on May 28, 1947, to William H. Newton and Catherine (Rosevear) Newton in Aberdeen, Washington. He was raised in the Aberdeen area, graduating from JM Weatherwax High School in 1965. When he was a teenager, Bill worked as a gas attendant at Campbell Service Station, and helped maintain a machine shop, sweeping floors. He went on to attend Grays Harbor College for some time. He later began working at Sears in the Service Shop.

He married Donna Scott, the couple divorced after 23 years. Shortly after his wedding, Bill joined the Navy. He was a reservist for some time, then went on to active duty during a deployment to the Philippines. He was also stationed in Hong Kong and Maryland.

After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, Bill moved back to Aberdeen, and went back to working at Sears in the Service Shop. Bill and Donna had two children: a son, Thomas and daughter, Lisa. In 1994, he met Billi Dawn. The couple married 6 years later on Sept. 1, 2000 in Aberdeen, Washington. Bill became a stepfather to Billi’s daughter, Angelique, whom Bill loved as dearly as his own. He later began a career as an appliance repairman with Quality Appliance in Shelton, Washington, where he spent many years until his retirement. After retirement, he began working at O’Reilly’s Auto Shop to fulfill his time and enjoyment for work and machines.

Bill had an appreciation for classic cars and motorcycles. He loved to restore motorcycles, and after many years and many bikes, he started restoring old bicycles. After he fixed them up, he would give them to children around the neighborhood who did not have a bike. During COVID, he found a passion in modeling, whether it be a car model or airplane model, Bill could and would build them with ease. Bill and Billi also enjoyed their vacations twice a year to visit their grandchildren in California.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine Newton, and sister, Cheri Jones.

Bill is survived by his wife, Billi Newton, who resides in the family home; son, Thomas (Sarah) Newton, of Elma, Washington; daughters, Lisa Newton, of Aberdeen, Washington, and Angelique (Neal) Schanbeck, of California; sister, Cathy (Kathy DiLorenzo) LeCompte; 6 granddaughters; 3 grandsons; and 1 great-grandchild with 2 more on the way.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Cosi Lions Club in Cosmopolis.
