Theoma (Tedi) Marie Sims, age 63, passed away on Oct. 2, 2018, in Aberdeen, Wash., after an extended illness. She was born June 30, 1955, in Wrangell, Alaska.

Tedi graduated from Wrangell High School and worked at the schools in Wrangell, Alaska, for many years. She earned an Associated Arts degree in elementary education from the University of Alaska Southeast in 1986. She was instrumental in developing the Wrangell High School computer education program and she was a Certified Mac Repair person, retiring in 2009.

Tedi was a beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister. She and her husband, Tom, fished commercially in southeast Alaska for salmon and halibut, and their son, Dan, was raised on the boat.

She was artistic, could draw, paint, and made lovely bead earrings. She sang in the community choir, and she was active in the Episcopal Church.

In her last few years, Tedi and Tom did a lot of traveling. They traveled to Indiana to see family. They went to the Grand Canyon; they saw Santana and Elton John in Las Vegas. One of Tedi’s favorite memories was the trip she made with her dear friend Eadie Montgomery to Hawaii.

Tedi loved to be around people, and they felt it. She had a smile that lit up her whole face, and an infectious laugh. Throughout her illness, she never lost her sense of humor.

Surviving family members include: her husband Tom Sims, Wrangell, Alaska; son Daniel Sims (U.S. Navy, stationed in Greece); mother Olga Norris, Wrangell, Alaska; sisters Terry Hosford (husband James), Aberdeen, Vicky Arndt (husband David), Albion, Ind., Michelle Hodges (husband William), Fitchburg, Mass. and Teckla Sliger (husband John), Garrett, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held at St. Philips Episcopal Church in Wrangell, Alaska, on Oct. 20.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Wrangell Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 794 Wrangell, Alaska 99929, or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
