Stephen William Penttila

Stephen William Penttila passed away July 8, 2021.

Stephen William Penttila, born to Eric and Elinor Penttila on April 9, 1946, passed away July 8, 2021. He attended Weatherwax High School, graduating in 1964.

After high school, Steve joined the Air Force, working as a military police officer. He began his career with the Washington State Ferries in the early 1970s, working his way up to Captain.

He married Cheryl Heider, on Sept. 10, 1966, and the couple raised their two children on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Steve’s life embraced the spirit of laughter, the essence of hard work and a deep devotion to his family.

In his retirement years he loved to golf and travel, visiting over 40 states.

Steve is survived by his daughter Shelly (Mark) Chamberlin, son Scott (Chrissy) Penttila, and grandchildren: Amanda (Matthew) Griffin, Landon Penttila, and Dylan Penttila. Surviving siblings are Eric (Sharon) Penttila, Lauri Penttila, Mary (Mike) Hansen, and Christine (Tom) Maynard. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Cheri, brother Phil Penttila, and parents Eric and Elinor Penttila.
