It is with great sadness to say that Sarah Jane Meers passed away very unexpectedly on Dec. 13, 2017, in Portland, Ore. after an extremely short cancer diagnosis and pneumonia complications.

Sarah was born March 4, 1958, to Thomas & Nina (Mann) Meers of Elma. Sarah was the ninth and last child to join the Meers clan. She grew up with her numerous siblings and cousins up on “Fuller Hill”. Sarah graduated Elma H.S. in 1976 and soon moved to Portland, Ore. to forge her path in life. There she met her love of the last 40 years, Hugo. They were a charming and caring couple who loved and cared for so many others over the years. Sarah & Hugo welcomed their first son, Kody, in April of 1987 and very soon after followed Travis, in December of 1988. In Portland is where they lived and grew their beautiful family.

All who know Sarah remember her greeting the most. She would have a large inviting smile and her bright blue eyes fixed on you! She was joyful and full of life. She was competitive to the point of ferociousness, and we loved that about her. She was a surrogate mother to many and she was damn good at it! The loss we feel is profound and seems immeasurable, but we have a thousand lifetimes of memories she was sure to make with us. We truly are the richer for having known her.

Sarah is survived by her husband Hugo, son Kody (Ashton) and son Travis, all of Portland. Her siblings Ed, Rhoda, Lois, Carol, Jackie, Ruth, Mary and Dorothy; numerous cousins who were like siblings and many nieces, nephews, and great-niece and nephews….all had a very special place in her heart. Both her mother, Nina and father, Thomas preceded her in death.

We will have a celebration of life later in the spring, since she loved the seasons flowers and nice weather.
