Sally Jean Hayes

Sally Jean Hayes of Montesano passed away of natural causes at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington on August 21, 2023. Sally was born to Helen Olsen Neely February 3, 1946 in Coos Bay, Oregon.

As a little girl, Sally and her family moved to Cosmopolis, Washington where she grew up. She graduated from Aberdeen High School with the class of 1964. Sally had three children: Michael, Brian and Audra. In 1982, she married the love of her life Dave (Punk) Hayes.

As a young adult Sally worked at Wolfe’s in Aberdeen. She also did the bookkeeping for her husband Dave’s auto body business. Later she went to work at SeaFirst Bank which was later changed to Bank of America. The Bank of America would then become where she retired.

Sally enjoyed her involvement with friends in her sewing club. She was a longtime member of the Montesano Presbyterian Church and the last few years, she attended the Montesano United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was involved in a number of other church activities. She was a member of Eastern Star, and she and Dave were members of the Midnight Cruisers car club.

Sally was quite crafty and very much enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was a avid reader and especially loved a good murder mystery. A couple of her favorite TV programs, which she never missed, were NCIS, and The Price is Right. Sally and Dave loved participating in various car shows and getting together with friends, while “glamping” at the beach and digging clams. She loved Mamma Mia soundtrack and playing cards — Cribbage, Rummy, Pinochle, Solitaire and Skip-Bo. Garage sale browsing was definitely on the top of her list of fun things to do. Sally was a huge sports fan and loved followed her granddaughter Cheyann’s athletic contests as well as her great-grandchildren’s’ Renner and Rhyan’s sports activities. She cherished her pets Daisy, Charlie, Skeeter, Sassy and Siff.

Sally is survived by her children Mike and Brian Bartlett of Montesano, Washington and Audra Bentley of Port Angeles, Washington; grandchildren Danielle Hinderlie, Rachel Wood and Cheyann Strickler; and four great-grandchildren Renner, Rhyan, Ronnie and Brayden. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Dave Hayes.

There will be an Open House-Celebration of Life at the Montesano United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 2 p.m.
