Robert H. Harmon, age 95, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, Wash. died on July 9, 2017, at his home in Hoquiam. Robert H. Harmon was born on Dec. 17, 1921, in Carnigie, Okla.

Robert H. Harmon, age 95, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, Wash., died on July 9, 2017, at his home in Hoquiam. Robert H. Harmon was born on Dec. 17, 1921, in Carnigie, Okla. He was raised in Cougar, Wash., and graduated from Woodland High School in 1940.

He joined the Merchant Marine and worked aboard three liberty ships, hauling ammunition to the South Pacific.

Upon his discharge, he began working in heavy construction and was involved in or as a superintendent of many large projects including The Dalles Bridge, fish ladders at Wynoochee Dam, the Queets-Clearwater Bridge and at ITT Rayonier. He was employed by Quigg Bros and had worked at Kotzebue, Alaska before retiring.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, clam digging and gardening. He truly loved having coffee with his buddies for the past twelve years at Duffy’s, Swanson’s and the Blue Beacon. He played on Bronkos Pool Team at the Liberty Tavern on the south side of Aberdeen. He also belonged to VFW Post #1135 in Hoquiam.

Surviving relatives include his daughter, Kathleen A. Vita of Aberdeen and numerous nephews, including Jack Harmon and Michael and Jay Martin. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Horace, Fred and Ralph Harmon and a sister, Joydene Martin.

A celebration of his life is being planned for a later date and the family is planning a private urn committal at the Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
