Robert “Bob” Lowell Russell, 87, Ocean Shores resident and former submariner and appliance repairman, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Harbor Regional Health in Aberdeen, Washington.

Bob was born on June 8, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois to William and Eva (Maywald) Russell. He had a brother, David Russell and sister, Elizabeth “Betty” High Calkin. The family moved to Washington when Bob was 10. He attended high school in Burien. He spent 23 years in the United States Navy, starting with surface ships and ending his military career in the submarine force. During this time he met and married Faith Tomer and became a stepfather to her 3 boys, Gilbert, Mark, and Dane. Bob and Faith had 2 children: Michael Scott and Krsti. After discharge from the Navy, Bob and the family moved back to Washington, and Bob finished his Bachelor’s degree in Forestry at the University of Washington. He opened an appliance repair service where he would spend the next 34 years. Faith loved antiques and they sold them in several locations. He also liked antiques and helped Faith with her business. After 48 years of marriage Faith passed away. Through one of his customers he met Frances Forslund Corcoran and they were married on August 31, 2012, in Las Vegas, where his brother lived. The couple bought a home in Ocean Shores, Washington, a place Bob had always wanted to live.

He was a member of the Elks and Eagles. He was an avid reader and writer, and wrote articles for Navy Magazines. In Towline, he wrote of his Navy life experiences. He loved crossword puzzles, telling jokes, and loved to laugh. In Bob’s honor we wish him, his fellow service members, family and friends for fair winds and following seas.

Bob is survived by his wife, Fran; his sister, Betty; daughter, Kristi (David) Oldfield; and sons: Michael (Elizabeth) Russell; Gilbert Tomer; Mark Tomer; and Dane (Marj) Tomer; 6 grandchildren: Mark, Emily, Anthony, Kristopher, Marjean, and Christy; and 2 great-grandchildren: Mary and Emma.
