Lifelong Elma resident Robert Alvin Winings passed away March 12, 2019, at the Summit Pacific Hospital in Elma, Washington.

Lifelong Elma resident Robert Alvin Winings passed away March 12, 2019, at the Summit Pacific Hospital in Elma, Washington. Robert was born in Garden City, Washington on Sept. 11, 1924, to John and Mabel Winings.

Robert (Bob) joined the service at the age of 18, serving in the U.S. Navy for 27 years. He was a WWII and Korean Veteran. Out of all the ships he served on, his favorites were the submarines. After the service, Robert settled down at the family farm on the outskirts of Elma with his wife Irene. Together they raised beef cattle enjoying life together.

Robert also became the head of the Elma VFW club, running it for years as his wife Irene did many dinners working beside Robert.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lennie Irene (Stevens) Winings, their children Elsiemond R. Anderson, Karen L. Livengood and Edward L. Stewart.

Robert is survived by his daughter Sharon L. Eoff and her husband Robert J.; son James P. Stewart with his wife Mary A.; Robert’s sister Florence Spalding; nephew David and wife Kay Spalding; nieces Susan Tomas and Annette Ferrel of Elma; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews; 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019, at Masonic Cemetery in Elma, Washington.

Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Family Mortuary of Montesano, Washington.
