Pierrette Pine, 89, of Elma, Washington, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023 from complications due to pneumonia.

Pierrette was born August 19, 1933 to Germaine Dionne and Jack Wall in Montreal, Quebec.

As a child, she was raised by nuns in a convent until graduating from high school. She then attended the University of Montreal where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1951.

She loved dancing. She was once offered a job as a professional dancer but chose nursing instead. It was a night out dancing with friends that she met her future husband, William “Bill.” She was 24 years old when they met and she did not speak English. Bill was on military leave when they met in Canada. While he was stationed in Germany, they kept in communication through letters and the use of French to English and English to French dictionaries until he was discharged. They were married in 1959, in Gowanda, New York.

Pierrette loved to knit, crochet, and play card games. Pinochle was a favorite and Pierrette and Bill would play with friends for hours on end.

Her competitive nature rubbed off on her children. All of her children excelled in athletics. She was proud of them all and would sit in the bleachers all day watching and cheering for her sons during wrestling tournaments and other competitions.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother Normand, her sister Jeannine, and her husband Bill.

Pierrette is survived by her sister, Michele Barmash of Toronto, Ontario, daughter, Gisele (Fred) Hernandez of Kennewick; sons Michael (Gerri) Pine of Moses Lake, Patrick (Meley) Pine of Olympia, Phillip (Marilyn) Pine of Elma, and Kevin Pine of Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Mass Offerings will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elma, Washington at 10 a.m. with Father Jaya Embeti. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Church followed by a short memorial at the grave site.
