Myrna M. Moe

Myrna M. Moe passed away at home on Sept. 4, surrounded by her loving family.

Myrna was born on March 1, 1939, to Norman and Mildred (Mim) Morey in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. At the age of 3, the Morey family moved from Wisconsin to Washington, settling in Grays Harbor County — “out the Wishkah.” In 1953, the family moved to a dairy farm just outside of Porter, Washington.

While growing up, Myrna and her brothers exhibited a lot of musical talent, and over many years took lessons in piano, accordion, organ and tap dancing. As a teenager, Myrna and her brother Don were often found entertaining at various service organizations in and around Grays Harbor.

Myrna graduated from Elma High School in 1957. While as a senior in high school, Myrna and a few friends were out peeling cascara bark when she fell into a rather deep ditch. A handsome guy from Oakville, Rolfe Moe, saw her predicament and stopped to help her. Myrna and Rolfe were married in April 1958 and spent the next 64 years devoted to each other.

Myrna is survived by Rolfe at their home in Montesano, daughter Debbie Gowan of Elma, sons Jim B. Moe (Debbie) of Montesano and Dean Moe Sr (Jeni) of Port Orchard, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grand children. She is also survived by her brothers Don Morey (Molly) of Oakville and LeRoy Morey (Lorett) of Montesano, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Norm and Mim Morey and brother Duane Morey.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Myrna’s memory be made to GH Fire District 2, 6317 Olympic Highway, Aberdeen, WA 98520. At her request, a small family service will be held at a later date.
