Larry O. Pearson, a resident of Montesano, died on Jan. 24, 2023, in Aberdeen.

Larry O. Pearson, age 95, a resident of Montesano, died on Jan. 24, 2023, at Harbor Regional Health Community Hospital in Aberdeen. Larry was born on Nov. 16, 1927, to Henne and Oscar Pearson. He was the youngest of six children. His sisters Ruth, Mabel, Helen, Dorothy and June preceded him in death.

Larry was a standout athlete at Hoquiam High School in 1944, 1945 and 1946 in football, basketball and track. In later years, he was an avid golfer and bowler, and bowled for over 30 years on Ernie and Rays and Shelley’s Barber Shop Team, bowling the last 15 years with his son, Larry. He also was a coach for Hoquiam Little League for his son Rick.

He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Nichols, on Aug. 7, 1948.

He had worked as a machinist at Port Machine works and Harbor Machine for many years, retiring in 1988.

Larry is a proud veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Marines and one of the Chosin Few. He was a lifetime member of the Hoquiam Elks and the Aberdeen VFW.

He and his wife Shirley loved to cruise and take trips to Laughlin, Nevada in the spring for a month and trips to local casinos.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Shirley of the family home in Montesano; sons, Larry and his wife Diane of Aberdeen and Rick of Phoenix. He also has numerous grandchildren, including Lindsay, Nathan, Ashley, Joe and Jennifer and great-grandchildren, Jade, Grayson, Owen, Wyatt, Estella, Cole, Teigen, Vanden and Kingston.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ron of Aberdeen.

There will be no public service. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Korean War Memorial, American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
