Kevin P. Green passed away in Montesano on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022.

Kevin P. Green, age 71 passed away in Montesano, Washington on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, from a long struggle with amyloidosis, a rare blood disorder. He was born to George and Margaret Green in 1950 in Spokane, Washington. He grew up in Wilbur, Washington in the middle of wheat country, and he loved his hometown.

After graduating from Wilbur High School in 1968, Kevin attended Central Washington University, graduating in 1973 with a BA in Education. He taught junior high for 32 years, beginning in Kittitas, Washington in 1974 and moving on to Aberdeen’s Hopkins Junior High, then to Miller Junior High in 1980. He retired from Aberdeen School District in 2008.

During his summer breaks from high school and college, he worked on wheat farms throughout the Wilbur area. Beginning in 1972 and for the next 10 years on his summer breaks from teaching, Kevin worked for his long-time friend Richard Dreger at Dreger Farms near Wilbur. He often spoke of his hometown and of his time on the Dreger ranch.

He is survived by his wife Leslie of 39 years. He’s also survived by his two stepsons whom he loved very much, Brady Rettkowski (Tiffany) Hermiston, Oregon and Joe Rettkowski (April) of Redmond, Washington. He was always so proud of Brady and Joe. A total joy in his life were his four grandchildren: Ryan, Lauren, Adam and Justin. He is also survived by his four siblings: Michele Green (Dick Platner) Lacey, Washington; Michael Green (Emily) Charlotte, North Carolina; Christine Diklich (Pete) Carson City, Nevada, and Terry Green (Debbie) Sammamish, Washington, and eight nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special family member, Katie Fetterhoff, Hermiston, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his brother Timothy Green, Carson City, Nevada.

Also of mention are Kevin’s very special friends Lew and Mary Blankenship, next-door neighbors for over 30 years; Kathy Clark of Wilbur, Washington, and his college pal Terry Pittman, of Surprise, Arizona.

Kevin got great pleasure out of clam digging and salmon fishing. He also raised a large vegetable garden beginning in 1984 which led to Kevin and Leslie preserving much of the produce. For several years he entered their preserved foods in the GH County Fair, earning many ribbons. For several years, Kevin helped judge the arts entrants at the fair.

He was an active member of the Aberdeen Education Association holding various offices for most of his career. He was a lifetime member of WEA and NEA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the City of Wilbur, Washington Pool Fund or the City of Wilbur Cemetery Fund.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Wilbur cemetery, details to be announced.
