Joel passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 28, 2024, at his home in Spokane, WA. He was born on September 6, 1945, at Camp Rucker, AL, to Doris and Robert Tyndell. He grew up in Raymond, WA, and graduated from Raymond High School.

After meeting on a blind date, he married Lynnette in 1972, and they quickly moved to Australia, where Joel taught kindergarten and their son Josh was born. After returning from Australia, they made their home in Montesano, WA, where Joel taught 6th-grade, computer science, and science classes at many levels in the Montesano School District. He later left Montesano to be a principal in the Wishkah School District. Joel was the head coach for Montesano High School Lady Bulldog basketball for several years and led the team to several successful seasons. Joel was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking his friends on his boat for early morning adventures on the Chehalis and Wishkah rivers.

Joel was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Lynnette. He is survived by his son Josh (Stephanie), their children Macy and Rylind, daughter Michaela, and her daughter Devon.

At Joel’s request, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date. Donations instead of flowers, may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
