After a short illness, James F. Briganti Jr. died on February 3, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was 76 years old.

Jim was born in New Jersey, attended college in Kansas, and served in the Army in Texas before moving to Washington in the 1970s. He worked for most of his career in the juvenile court system, impacting the lives of many in Pacific County. Jim was an avid runner, then an avid bicyclist. He spent many happy hours hunting pheasant and fishing for trout; he is also fondly remembered by the bridge club he joined after retirement. For decades, he kept a vegetable garden, carefully tending to berries and pumpkins and carrots. Neighbors and acquaintances may remember the zucchini he foisted upon them at the end of the summer when he had a good crop: “I can’t freeze it. You eat it!”

Those same neighbors and acquaintances will also remember the succession of extremely devoted dogs often found trailing along in Jim’s wake. Each of those dogs sincerely believed that Jim was the most wonderful mammal on the planet.

Jim is predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Susan (Fagan) Briganti. Jim is survived by his daughters, Melanie Briganti and Kristine Briganti; his granddaughters, Selena Briganti and Sophia Briganti; his sister, Lorraine Briganti Jimenez, and his brother, Paul Briganti.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA in Jim’s memory.
