Edward Sigurd Ross, 81, a born and raised Aberdeen man, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at his family home in Aberdeen.

Ed was born on Jan. 16, 1941, in Aberdeen, Washington to parents Arnold and Ray-Jean (Town) Ross. He was raised on the Harbor, graduating from J.M. Weatherwax in 1959. Shortly after high school, Ed left for Alaska to work on loading and off-loading clam boats. After finishing the summer season, Ed came back to Aberdeen and began work with his father at Smith & Losli Sheet Metal, and over the next four years completed sheet metal school.

In 1960, Ed married Bonnie Auer. Throughout their 16 year marriage, they had three daughters. The couple later divorced. Edward later met Joan Mansfield, and in June of 1976, they married. Ed and Joan were married for 32 years before her passing on June 10, 2008. Between being a husband and father, Ed continued working with Smith and Losli for over 40 years before retiring.

Ed was a member of both the Hoquiam and Aberdeen Elks Lodge. He enjoyed the dinners each Friday night and was an avid card player during the lodges’ usual card games. His joys outside the lodge consisted of his NASCAR races, playing Sudoku and collecting model cars. He enjoyed going to the casino for the day and playing the slot machines, but his most joyful time was time camping at Wynoochee Wildwood with his family, spending time with his children and grandchildren.
