Douglas “Doug” John Nord, 82, of Montesano, Washington, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 1, 2023, in Aberdeen, Washington.

Doug was born in Aberdeen on Jan. 1, 1941, to George and Elma Nord. He was proud to be the the first baby born in Grays Harbor that year. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1959 and began working at Hoquiam’s ITT Rayonier in 1960, where he remained employed until his retirement in 1994. He married Ellen Barthelmae in June of 1961. They had two children together and divorced in 1974. He married Judy Dragovich James in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on Feb. 28, 1976, and they lived in Grays Harbor their entire married life.

Doug was well-known for his never-ending supply of jokes and enjoyed working on his well manicured lawn, auto detailing, golfing, college football (Go Huskies!), traveling with Judy and his scarf and blanket “knit picking.”

Doug was also a proud 8-year US Marine Corp Reservist, 50-year Masonic member and Elk’s Lodge member.

Most importantly, Doug was a hard working man whose family was his top priority.

Doug is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy at the family home; his children Tanya (Ken) Collins, Brian (Karla) Nord, Jackie (Scott) Reed and Bill (Katrina) James; grandchildren Jace (Shandi) Sorter, Bryce (Cortney) Sorter, Kendal (Ron) Johnson, Collin (Ashley) Nord, Haley Reed, Tyler James, Kennedy James, Madison James, Rylan James, Arianna (Treshawn) Lacey and Amaya Lacey. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren Shayla, Marki, Addison, Greyson, Andi Jo, Charlie and Nahkaiya.

There will be a celebration of life at 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 18, at the Aberdeen Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any donations be made to the American Heart Association.
