Bruce Edward Straughn passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Bruce Edward Straughn passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Bruce was born on April 1, 1940, to Donald and Shirley Straughn in Aberdeen, Washington. He was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen High School.

Bruce enlisted in the Navy in 1957 and was discharged in December 1959. Bruce married Paulette Salo on July 3, 1964, in Aberdeen, Washington where they went on to have two wonderful boys. He started out working for Womer Bros. Logging, and Charles Tjernberg Construction, before finally retiring in 1999 from Weyerhaeuser Pulp Mill. Bruce was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He also attended Satsop United Methodist Church. He loved hunting, fishing and hiking in the Olympic National Forest, especially to Enchanted Valley.

Bruce is preceded in death by his father Donald Straughn, mother and stepfather Shirley and Edward Mercer; and sister Karen Custer. He is survived by his wife Paulette Straughn of Satsop, Washington; sons Bruce A (Kelly) Straughn of Granite Falls, Washington and Jeffrey D (Stacey) Straughn of South Prairie, Washington; brother Jack Mercer; brother-in-law Rich Salo; and five grandchildren: Jeffrey, Allan, Rachel, and Matthew Straughn and Sam Sylliaasen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Satsop Methodist Church, PO Box 23, Satsop, WA 98583, or Satsop School for the Field Trip Fund, PO Box 96, Satsop, WA 98583.

A memorial service is being planned at Satsop United Methodist Church on May 6, 2023 at 11 a.m.
