Alta Moore, 86, died Sept. 9, 2021, in her home in South Bend, Washington.

She was born Aug. 3, 1935, in South Bend to Hubert and Mignon Bailey. She graduated from South Bend High School in 1953. She spent a few summers as a fire lookout at Packsack Lookout.

In the fall of 1955 she traveled to Altus Air Force Base to visit her sister Gloria Jouper where she met Clarence Moore. Gloria and her husband Ed, elected to have Clarence pick Alta up at the train station and the rest, as they say, was history. Clarence and Alta lived in Germany, South Dakota and Washington, D.C. before making South Bend their home.

She loved many things, but her favorites were her family, John Wayne, all animals, lighthouses, Crater Lake, South Bend sports, the Seahawks and the Mariners.

Mrs. Moore is survived by her husband, Clarence Moore, her sons: Michael Moore, Gregory Moore and Brian Moore (Micha), daughters Janet Galvin (Marcos) and Lynette Moore, sisters Florence Easter (Ed) and Gloria Jouper (Ed) her brother Don Bailey (Pat); nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. at Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond, Washington.

Donations may be sent to Willapa Harbor Helping Hands.
