Suspect vehicle sought in State Route 109 pedestrian hit-and-run

A woman injured in a hit-and-run while she was walking along State Route 109, north of Pacific Beach, on March 17 is recovering, and the State Patrol is still trying to identify the vehicle responsible.

According to a State Patrol report, Leona Hazen, 39, of Cornelius, Oregon, was on the southbound shoulder of the highway at about 10:18 p.m. when she was struck, knocking her into the southbound ditch. The vehicle continued south on SR 109 and was still at large as of Monday.

Hazen was airlifted to Tacoma General Hospital. The next morning, she posted on Facebook that she had suffered a fractured pelvis and had “lots of ugly bruising.” When contacted by the Daily World on Monday, Hazen said she has no recollection of what happened.

Friday, State Trooper Chelsea Hodgson said they had “no specific updates” about the incident. No information as of Monday afternoon has been released about the vehicle involved, and the State Patrol report said only that the case is still under investigation.
