Scammers use Comcast logos to get personal information via email

Yet another scam has come to Grays Harbor County, this one claiming to come from Comcast to get people to send personal information and gain access to scam victims’ bank accounts.

Lt. Kevin Darst with the Aberdeen Police Department received a call from a victim of this scam recently. That person received an email, purportedly from Comcast, reading, underneath a pretty convincing Xfinity banner, “We noticed an unauthorized access on your account from a blacklisted IP and we believe someone has your password. We have taken action to protect you by limiting your access until you review your identity.” The victim is then encouraged to hit a “Restore Your Account” button and enter personal information.

“The scammer was able to access the victim’s bank accounts and other personal information with the information provided to them by the victim, which caused many problems for the victim,” said Darst.

Darst again reminds everyone to not provide any personal information to anyone on the phone or internet whose identity you have not verified. Verification can be as simple as calling the official customer service center of the company in question.

“There are many scams out there that pretend to be legitimate companies and try to get access to your information,” warned Darst.
