Red Cross blood drives return to Aberdeen VFW

Aberdeen Post No. 224 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Red Cross announced that Red Cross blood drives will return to the VFW for the remainder of 2020 and for next year as well.

In May the blood drive was moved to the Aberdeen Elks because the VFW had accepted an offer to buy its building. However, the sale fell through. Since then, members have been working to clean, repair and update the facility and membership unanimously approved inviting the Red Cross back for the blood drives.

The agreement to allow use of the VFW building at 105 E. Heron St., was arranged by Jim Daly, Aberdeen VFW surgeon, chaplain and Veteran Service Officer and Heath Palen-McBee, account manager for the American Red Cross Blood Services, Pacific Northwest Region.

Monthly blood drives are planned for several months in 2020 and 2021, typically on a Wednesday and will go from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The first two are planned for July 8 and Sept. 9.

Appointments are needed. To check on scheduling and make an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS.
