    Vern Heikkila’s passion for paddling runs deep and in 2010 Vern built Ele Paio, a six-person, 44-foot “Tahitian-Hawaiian-Northwest Fusion” outrigger canoe. For years, Vern and his wife Janet have spent winters with friends in Hawaii paddling, racing and working on similar craft.
