Grays Harbor Community Foundation awards Early Learning grant cycle
Last year, the Grays Harbor Community Foundation created an Early Learning grant cycle to respond to the needs of school districts and nonprofits involved in early learning.
Years ago, the Foundation identified early learning as a priority for the health and prosperity of Grays Harbor and since then, they have invested over $1 million into Grays Harbor and its children.
Maryann Welch, chair of the Early Learning Committee, said, “Since 2016, the Grays Harbor Community Foundation has been all about expanding and enriching early learning opportunities for Grays Harbor families and kids. We believe that our youngest Harborites are the most precious assets we have so we have dedicated over $1 million for various projects focused on children up to 5 years old. Among projects supported and funded have been transitional kindergarten in several school districts and early childhood programs offered through the YMCA as well as support for our local early learning coalition and much more.”
Their Early Learning grant cycle started last year to respond to needs faster since they will be reviewing applications every other month. All school districts and agencies can apply once a year for a grant up to $10,000.
“Providing these kinds of opportunities is a necessity in building strong families and their young children,” she said. “Overall, the Foundation’s goal is to see that every child can have opportunities for quality learning which we believe will lead to a bright future for our County.”
