Power outage hits Ocean Shores, North Beach
Approximately 8,400 customers in the Ocean Shores, Oyhut and North Beach areas were without power for approximately four hours Wednesday evening after lightning struck a transmission pole near Lytle Seafoods along state Route 109 in Hoquiam that impacted multiple substations. Power has since been completely restored.
Aberdeen elects new councilor to fill vacant seat
The city of Aberdeen’s City Council elected Carrie Hubbard to fill the Ward 4 position that was vacated by Stan Sidor’s resignation on Feb. 14. The Council had five candidates to choose from — Norma Fleming, Tara Mareth, Hubbard, Russ Kvavle and Les Bolton. Each was afforded five minutes to “campaign” for the position. Councilors were then afforded the opportunity to ask the candidates questions.
The Council paused the meeting for an executive session prior to nominating three of the five candidates and voting. Tara Mareth and Carrie Hubbard emerged as the top two and were tied after the first and second rounds of voting. Mayor Douglas Orr cast the deciding vote for Hubbard.
Hubbard will be sworn in on April 9, her appointment expires in December and she will have to declare her candidacy by May 9 to run for the office in the next General Election on November 4.
County Board of Commissioners action meeting
The Grays Harbor County Board of Commissioners consisting of Georgia Miller, Rick Hole and Vickie Raines discussed and voted to approve several measures during their action meeting on Tuesday including:
Opened the bid for the official county newspaper contract.
Adopted a resolution vacating portions of right of way in the plat of Roosevelt Beach.
Adopted a resolution vacating a specific portion of Branch B Road right of way adjacent to Darrell Haglund’s property in Section 17, Township 18 North, Range 11 West of the Willamette Meridian.
Great Rivers BH-ASO gave a presentation regarding the Regional Crisis Line.
Approved a proclamation recognizing April 6–12, 2025, as National Library Week.
Authorized District Court to hire a court administrator.
Adopted a resolution for a fairgrounds general conduct rule.
Approved the Pacific Northwest Music Project tourism grant contract for destination marketing project for $50,000.
Approved tourism grant contracts with Circle Motion Promotions for $25,000 and The Daily World for $20,000.
Approved the 2025 agreement with Great Rivers Behavioral Health for civil commitment cases.
Approved 2025 aggregate supply contract with Northwest Rock, Inc., for $76,611
Approved the 2025 aggregate supply contract with Sterling Breen Crushing, Inc. for $114,191.
Approved the service order with Carve Architects for Vance Creek arson repair services for $45,900.
Approved the interlocal agreement for public works assistance with the city of Cosmopolis.
Approved the agreement between Economic Development and Utilities for funding assistance for $300,000.
Approved Fuelcare contract for annual fuel tank maintenance .
Approved personal services contract with SBGH-Partners, LLC for $20,000.
Voted to approve the purchase of a Kubota utility vehicle for $23,593.
Approved the agreement between the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office and Lexipol for Policies and Procedures Manual for $54,893.
Approved a resolution authorizing the Superior Court of Grays Harbor County to enter into Interagency Agreements with the Washington State Administrative Office of the Courts.
Also voted to approve various amendments to agreements with several organizations.
