On Saturday, March 20, the Lake Quinault Volunteer Fire Department renamed their Neilton Station to honor Floyd E. “Dave” Davis as well as his wife Jigger Davis for their many years of service.

Dave Davis passed away March 18, 2020, and, due to COVID-19, the family postponed the celebration of life until Friday, allowing the renaming to coincide with the celebration.

He was a volunteer member of the department for 35 years, eight of those as chief, with an additional 15 years as a fire commissioner. He was instrumental in the building of the Neilton station as well as the placement of two water tanks allowing the department to improve water efficiency on structure fires.

Davis also spent countless hours working on department vehicles, without compensation, to keep them in service and control costs.

His wife of 49 years, Jigger Davis, continues to dispatch for the department, spending countless hours — day and night — monitoring the radio and coordinating crew members and activating response in conjunction with Grays Harbor 911, facilitating aid to the community since 1973.

“At Dave’s passing, the department members made the decision to honor their service with this beautiful tribute,” said daughter Mary Christiansen. “The family is extremely honored and forever grateful.”
