The Washington State Patrol and East Grays Harbor Fire and Rescue were on the scene Monday afternoon of a blocking motor vehicle accident at U.S. Highway 12 and the state Route 8 Interchange.

A Montesano man was charged with DUI and vehicular assault Monday afternoon after a two-car crash at the intersection of U.S Highway 12 and state Route 8.

Clinton G. Rattie, 53, Montesano, was driving west on U.S. Highway 12 at the state Route 8 off ramp. A vehicle driven by a 23-year-old Olympia woman with a 10-month-old girl in her car, was southbound on Elma McCleary Road entering east on U.S. Highway 12.

Rattie attempted to make a left turn onto the westbound on ramp of U.S. Highway 12 when he ran into the other vehicle. Both cars came to rest fully blocking eastbound U.S. Highway 12 at the state Route 8 off ramp and also partially blocking the westbound lane of the highway. The woman’s car was totaled.

The cause of the crash was listed as failure to yield by Rattie and that alcohol was a factor.
