Kitchen fire strikes Blue Beacon restaurant

A rough year for the Blue Beacon restaurant in South Aberdeen ended poorly with a kitchen fire Monday morning.

The Aberdeen Fire Department was dispatched to the restaurant on Boone Street around 5 a.m. and found the kitchen on fire with flames venting out the roof. The fire response included a command unit, two fire engines and an ambulance from the Aberdeen Fire Department and an additional fire engine from Hoquiam, with 10 firefighters working together to knock down the blaze. There were no injuries reported after the fire.

Nor Cat contractors were on the scene mid-morning Monday assessing the damage. Jay Dotson said all told the damages could reach $150,000 or more when kitchen appliance replacement and structural damage to the roof and ventilation system are taken into consideration.

The restaurant and bar are boarded up, but Dotson said they are doing their best to allow owner Charlotte Grimblot to open the bar as soon as possible. The bar was recently remodeled after a customer, Kyle Deitrick of Montesano, rammed into it with his truck in late May.
