Update: latest primary election vote count demonstrates the elasticity of such counts

Friday’s 2026 primary election vote count demonstrated the elasticity of such counts during the cycle leading up to certification. One count shows a race tightening, while the next shows that same race widening.

The latest count, which took place at 2:23 p.m. Friday, shows incumbent Joel McEntire (R), after drawing even, falling behind his democratic challenger, Terry Carlson, in the State Representative Position 2 Legislative District 19 race. Daniel Crawford (R) has dropped back a bit against appointed incumbent prosecutor Jason Walker (D). Appointed incumbent County Treasurer Shawn Hill (D) has regained his earlier lead over Republican challenger Wes Cormier.

Incumbent County Assessor Dan Lindgren (R) now leads independent challenger Josh Nuxoll by nine percentage points, Charlee Paull (R) has lost a smidge of her lead over Brielle Joyce (D) for Auditor. Incumbent Sheriff Darrin Wallace leads Ed Welter by 21 percentage points. Stan Sturgeon (NP) maintains a healthy lead of incumbent appointed County Commissioner JR Streifel (R) in the District 3 race.

As of the latest count, 13,469 votes, 26% of a possible 52,292 registered voters, have been cast in Grays Harbor County. The next expected vote count is Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 4:30 p.m.

The top two candidates in each race will advance to November’s general election. Incumbent Clerk Kym Foster and Coroner George Kelley are running unopposed. District Court Andrea Vingo is also running unopposed and has already advanced to the general election, incumbent District Court Judge Megan Valentine and her challenger David Mistachkin have also advanced.
