The Grays Harbor County Superior Court has announced via press release that Chief Civil Deputy Prosecutor Jon Beltran will be appointed as Court Commissioner in November.
The court commissioner regularly handles a variety of dockets, reviews ex parte orders, and fills in with other court needs. They are considered judicial officers and report to the Judges.
“With his extensive background in both civil and criminal law, I am confident that Commissioner Beltran will be a valuable addition to the Superior Court bench,” said Presiding Judge Katie Svoboda. “In his practice, Commissioner Beltran has served the citizens of Grays Harbor well, and I look forward to seeing this continue in his role as a judicial officer.”
As Chief Civil Deputy Prosecutor, Beltran advised the County Board of Commissioners and other elected county officials on civil matters. Beltran began his tenure with the Prosecutor’s Office in 2014 as a Criminal Deputy Prosecutor. In 2017, he served as the Grays Harbor Drug Task Force prosecutor during the largest crackdown on illegal marijuana-growing operations in county history.
In 2018, Beltran served as a Special Assistant Attorney General, representing the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families in child abuse and neglect cases.
“It is an honor to be able to continue to serve the citizens of Grays Harbor in this new role,” Beltran said. “I look forward to this new chapter to do so.”
Beltran received a Juris Doctor from Seattle University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Texas State University. Upon graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army, where he worked as a mechanic and convoy driver during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
