A 71-year-old Taholah man died after his vehicle left Route 109 near Copalis Beach, struck a tree and caught fire.

A 71-year-old Taholah man died after his vehicle left Route 109 near Copalis Beach, struck a tree and caught fire.

According to the Washington State Patrol, 71-year-old Ronald R. Grover of Taholah was headed northbound on state Route 109 just north of milepost 21 at 2:30 Thursday morning when he and his SUV left the roadway and struck a tree.

The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and Grover was killed in the crash.

The cause of the incident is under investigation and it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved.
