Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office honors Deputy Gregory

Thursday marked one year since the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office lost Deputy Jason Gregory to an unexpected medical event.

Deputy Gregory was a close friend to many first responders and a true representative of the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office posted, “Deputy Gregory was a man of compassion who would frequently help people in need. On one occasion Deputy Gregory was dispatched to a welfare check and encountered a family living out of their vehicle. Deputy Gregory spoke to the father of this family and determined that the family just needed a little assistance to get back on their feet. Deputy Gregory reached into his own pocket and bought the man and his family a hotel room for several nights so they could get a warm shower and relax.

“During another interaction, Deputy Gregory encountered a subject walking down the highway in the middle of the night. Deputy Gregory offered to give the man a ride to his destination. When the man refused Deputy Gregory insisted on giving the man a pair of his own shoes after noticing the man’s shoes were deteriorating and would more than likely not make the journey.”

These are just a couple of examples of the kindness Deputy Gregory displayed while serving the citizens of Grays Harbor County.

In Deputy Gregory’s honor the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up with the BlueBridge Alliance to keep Deputy Gregory’s acts of generosity continuing on.

BlueBridge Alliance is a non-profit that aims to build relationships with the police and the community they serve. BlueBridge Alliance provides monetary resources that deputies can utilize during their encounters with the public, whether in a moment of crisis or via a random act of kindness.

These small purchases not only benefit our community members in need, they also improve the mental health of our deputies.

With this program each of our deputies will be provided with a debit card that they can use to purchase anything from a couple of gallons of gas to a stranded motorist to a hotel room for a domestic violence victim. Each purchase is tracked and audited for accountability.
