Free mental health training offered for anyone working with teens

A free training opportunity for community members working with youth will be offered in Aberdeen on Friday, May 25.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid class is offered by the Area Health Education Center for Western Washington as part of its mission to strengthen healthcare in rural communities.

Participants earn a certificate that demonstrates they’ve learned a five-step action plan to help loved ones, colleagues, neighbors and others cope with mental health or substance-use problems. The certificate is good for three years and is modeled on the standard principles of first aid so that people without formal healthcare training can provide support until appropriate help is received.

The training will take place at the Aberdeen High School from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information or to register, visit AHECWW.org or call 360-383-3170. Enrollment is free of charge but participation is limited to 25.
