Food, cash donations taken Saturday at McCleary’s first ever ‘fill the cruiser’ food drive

Two police cruisers were filled with food and nearly $1,200 was raised in the McCleary Police Department’s first “Fill the Cruiser” food drive Saturday.

The department partnered with the McCleary School District for the event, which went from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It was designed to “send McCleary School students in need home with food before spring break,” said McCleary City Councilman Brycen Huff. McCleary Bear Festival royalty were on hand to help with the event.

“The McCleary community, people throughout Grays Harbor and neighboring counties were very generous with their giving,” said Huff. “I am humbled and at a loss for words.”

Two police vehicles were filled with food donations, and overflow donations went into a utility trailer. Cash and check donations were collected totaling nearly $1,200, said Huff, who noted the donations were to be delivered Monday to the school to be divided up.
