Fire in unoccupied structure on Queets Ave. extinguished Friday morning

Aberdeen and Hoquiam firefighters teamed to put out a fire at an unoccupied home in the 2300 block of Queets Avenue in Hoquiam Friday morning.

According to Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers, crews were dispatched just before 5:30 a.m. after a call reporting that flames and smoke were visible from the back of the house. The fire was put out quickly but the roof had already suffered significant damage, said Myers.

“The Hoquiam Police Department has taken custody of the scene; detectives and fire investigators will be at the house conducting an investigation throughout most of the day once the search warrant is obtained,” said Myers late Friday morning. He added the streets in the immediate area, after having been closed early in the investigation, were open to traffic as of 11:45 a.m.
