Elma man injured by vehicle while walking on SR12

An 18-year-old Elma man was injured early Sunday morning when he was reportedly walking in the westbound lane of State Route 12 south of Elma and struck by a car coming in the opposite direction.

The pedestrian was walking eastbound in the westbound lane shortly before 3 a.m., according to a Washington State Patrol report. A 34-year-old Elma woman was driving westbound when she encountered the pedestrian near mile post 22, about 2 miles south of Elma, striking the man with her 2016 Kia Forte.

The man was taken to St. Peter’s Hospital with undisclosed injuries. The Elma driver was not injured and her car, while damaged, was driven from the scene. The Elma man is facing possible charges of walking in the roadway, according to the State Patrol report.
