County posts early results for Cosi and Westport elections

Low turnout marked countywide voting

Linda Springer is showing a solid lead over Steve Davis for the Cosmopolis mayoral race, leading 256 votes to 112, and capturing about 70% of the vote.

“I am really honored. I am very appreciate of the people who believe in me and are supporting me. I’m going to work very hard not to let them down and to move our community,” Springer said in an interview. “My goal is really to bring citizens together no matter how they voted. We have, really truly, an amazing community.”

Springer will preside over a largely new city council. As of Wednesday afternoon, Kim Skinner was leading Ashley Arcangel for the Position 1 seat, 223 to 132, while Justin Spargo was leading Kasi Turner for Position 3, 191 to 161. Mark Collett led Sue Darcy by only nine votes for Position 4, 177 to 168. Jeremy Winn locked up the Position 2 seat unopposed.

“It is a new council but I think it’ll be a solid one. I think there will be some diversity on the council. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I think there will be lots of ideas brought to the table,” Springer said. “It’s important we don’t have an agenda. We are there to represent the citizens.”

While Cosmopolis’ financial situation is her largest concern, Springer said she had ideas for tackling it.

“I’m going to hit the ground running. I have lots of ideas,” Springer said. “We need to pay attention to our budget, our finances. I think there’s a lot of good ideas out there.”
