Candidate filing week wraps with more than 100 people declaring

More than 3,200 seats are up for grabs statewide including 113 in Grays Harbor County

Candidate filing week wrapped up yesterday as 105 candidates declared their intention to run for one of 88 offices as of press time Thursday. Many more were expected to file before yesterday’s 5 p.m. deadline.

More than 3,200 seats are up for grabs statewide including 113 in Grays Harbor County.

Primaries will include Port Commissioner, Hospital boards of commissioners, Aberdeen, Cosmopolis, Hoquiam, Elma, McCleary, Montesano, Oakville, Ocean Shores and Westport city councils, Oakville and McCleary mayoral races along with numerous school boards and fire and water districts. The 18-day primary voting period begins July 18 and runs through Primary Day on Aug. 5.

Ocean Shores City Councilor Rich Hartman posted on Facebook on May 2, “To give potential candidates for Ocean Shores City Council a chance to consider a campaign, I am announcing that I will not be filing for reelection next week for the 2026 term for seat 7.” Jane Shattuck has declared her candidacy for Hartman’s vacated Position 7. Incumbents Denise Siers and Lisa Scott have filed to run for re-election.

Other highlights include Kacey Ann Morrison (incumbent), Deb Wilson, Darrin Bates, Kevin Moynihan, Carrie Hubbard, Cliff Feigelson, Jerry Rajcich, Ryan Housden, Kevin Moynihan, John Shaw, David Lawrence (incumbent) filing to run for Aberdeen City Council; William Nelson, Robert T. Gillis, David Smith, Denise Anderson (incumbent) and Elizabeth Reid (incumbent) have filed for Hoquiam City Council; Louis Summers, Tom Aronson (incumbent) and Frank Eshpeter (incumbent) declaring for Westport City Council, while Brycen Huff has declared his candidacy for mayor of McCleary.

Primary winners will face off in the 2025 General Election, for which the voting period starts Oct. 17 and lasts until election day on Nov. 4.
