Candidate filing week ends tomorrow

Numerous races up for grabs in Grays Harbor County

Candidate filing week got underway this past Monday and ends tomorrow with declarations of candidacy and full payment due no later than 5 p.m.

More than 3,200 seats are up for grabs statewide including 113 in Grays Harbor County. Primaries will include Port Commissioner, Hospital boards of commissioners, Aberdeen, Cosmopolis, Hoquiam, Elma, McCleary, Montesano, Oakville, Ocean Shores and Westport city councils, and Oakville and McCleary mayoral races along with numerous school boards and fire and water districts.

Ocean Shores City Councilor Rich Hartman posted on Facebook on May 2, “To give potential candidates for Ocean Shores City Council a chance to consider a campaign, I am announcing that I will not be filing for reelection next week for the 2026 term for seat 7.”

Jane Shattuck has declared her candidacy for Hartman’s vacated Position 7. Incumbents Denise Siers and Lisa Scott have filed to run for re-election.

Other highlights include Kacey Ann Morrison (incumbent), Deb Wilson, Darrin Bates, Kevin Moynihan, Carrie Hubbard, Cliff Feigelson, John Shaw, David Lawrence (incumbent) filing to run for Aberdeen City Council; William Nelson, Robert T. Gillis, David Smith, Denise Anderson (incumbent) and Elizabeth Reid (incumbent) have filed for Hoquiam City Council; Louis Summers, Tom Aronson (incumbent) and Frank Eshpeter (incumbent) declaring for Westport City Council. Brycen Huff has declared his candidacy for mayor of McCleary.

So far, 91 people have declared their candidacy for 78 offices.

The 18-day primary voting period begins July 18 and runs through Primary Day, Aug. 5. The General Election’s voting period starts Oct. 17 and lasts until election day on Nov. 4.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to file online. Applicants may also print a Declaration of Candidacy form and mail it along with a check payable to the Office of the Secretary of State, P.O. Box 40229, Olympia, WA 98504-0229. State candidates also have the option of filing in person at the Legislative Building, located at 416 Sid Snyder Ave. SW in Olympia.
