Auction items raise thousands at United Way Black and White Gala fundraiser

Generous Grays Harbor business owners and citizens raised $140,000 for the United Way of at the Black and White Gala Saturday at the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino in Ocean Shores.

The amount raised Saturday at the event — sponsored by Five Star Dealerships, Jodesha Broadcasting and others and attended by 364 guests — added to the $1.5 million raised in its 20-year history. The funds are used by the United Way for programs such as health services, education and to help those in need to provide the basic necessities for their families.

Along with silent auction items donated by local businesses, there was a live auction with local radio personalities Luceman and Logan. Some spirited bidding was made on several items, with a Mariners suite for 20 donated by Root Sports going for $3,200. During the “Fund a Need” portion of the evening, where attendees can donate at levels ranging from $250 to $2,000, raised about $30,000.
