Auction and performance to raise money for music students

Aberdeen Bobcat Music Boosters hosting 34th annual jazz auction and dinner

Saturday evening presents an opportunity to watch some of Aberdeen’s most talented student musicians — and help them attend college.

The Aberdeen Bobcat Music Booster club is hosting its 34th Annual Aberdeen Bobcat Music Boosters Jazz Night & Scholarship Auction on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 5-8 p.m. in the Aberdeen High School Commons, 410 N. G St.

The event will feature performances from the Miller Jr. High Jazz Band, the Aberdeen High School Jazz Band, and the Aberdeen High School Choir. Admission is free. Inside, sales from pizza, pop and candy, plus money from raffles and a silent and live auction will fund scholarships for Aberdeen music students to pay college tuition.

Items on the auction block include free tickets to local attractions like the Driftwood Players theater and the Extreme Fun Center in Aberdeen, and events further away such as the Boeing Seafair air show in Seattle, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club.

“Just come listen, and participate if you can,” said Jesse Winter, a parent volunteer with the music booster club. Cash donations are also accepted for people who can’t attend Saturday’s performance but still would like to support Aberdeen music students, Winter said.

Winter said last year’s event featured 55 bidders who raised about $10,000 to provide seven student scholarships.
