On Saturday, Feb. 15 at about 9:40 p.m., Aberdeen Police Department officers were working a proactive patrol detail to combat an ongoing problem with illegal drugs and graffiti in Aberdeen neighborhoods.
While patrolling in the area of the 200 block of North F Street, they observed a vehicle speeding above the posted speed limit and failing to stop at stop signs. The officers caught up to the vehicle which was still driving at a high rate of speed.
After a brief vehicle pursuit, the suspect vehicle turned north in the 900 Block of I Street where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
The suspect, a 49-year-old Aberdeen man, was found hiding nearby and taken into custody. The suspect was found to be in possession of fentanyl and his vehicle was seized for the application of a search warrant. In total, 340 grams of fentanyl and 98 grams of heroin were seized.
The driver was placed into the Aberdeen jail for failing to yield to a police vehicle, driving while license suspended, manufacturing and delivery of narcotics and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
