Aberdeen police de-escalate suicidal woman

Last Wednesday at approximately 1:30 a.m. an Aberdeen Police Officer was working routine patrol when he observed a Black Ford Focus traveling at a high rate of speed in the 600 block of East Market Street.

The officer caught up to the vehicle on Young Street where the vehicle was observed sliding in the roadway due to the high speed. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren and a short vehicle pursuit ensued.

The driver of the vehicle lost control on Young Street and Tecumseh and ended up in a front yard where the vehicle came to rest. The 37-year-old female driver immediately exited the vehicle and started yelling at the officer to shoot her.

The officer distanced himself from the female while attempting to de-escalate the situation. Other Aberdeen officers arrived on scene and were able to take the female into custody.

The female was charged with Felony Eluding a Police Vehicle, Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest and Driving on a Suspended License.
