The Lonely pays tribute to Roy Orbison’s musical talent

Sunday Afternoon Live is shifting to Thursday this month to present The Lonely at the Raymond Theatre.

The Roy Orbison tribute band will play at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at the historic theater, 323 Third St. in Raymond.

The Lonely hails from Victoria, British Columbia. The band is named after Orbison’s first major hit, “Only the Lonely.”

Orbison formed his first band at age 13 and began performing regularly on radio in 1951. In 1955, he and other band members had a TV show in Odessa, Texas, where he hosted Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, among others. His life took him to recording studios and performances around the world, including a trip to the United Kingdom, where he played with the Beatles before they became a phenomenon in the United States.

Orbison died in 1988, suffering a heart attack at age 52. The Lonely continues to honor him through its performances.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. They are available by calling 360-875-5157, emailing salspecialconcert2@gmail.com or visiting www.sundayafternoonlive.org.
